2022 BOARD POLICY
ON FEEDING WILD LIFE
PER: DAVID FULKERSON, BOARD PRESIDENT
Good afternoon, Oakbrook,
If you were able to attend our April Board meeting, you may know that a member of our community asked for a review of policy regarding the feeding of wildlife. There was a flurry of emails amongst co-owners voicing support for bird feeders. There is also the recent history of squirrels finding their way into attics and other examples of property damage and nuisance resulting from a higher-than-expected number of local fauna. This must also be considered.
After some discussion, the Board voted to strike a balance. Bird feeders will continue to be allowed, although we encourage co-owners to hang these from a pole rather than attached to their unit. We also ask that you try to avoid spillage that may attract more non-avian wildlife. We are also setting a new policy that bans the feeding of other wildlife, with the hope that this will reduce the number of costly repairs and removals. Please, do not hand feed non-avian wildlife or place any type of food on your decks or porches, or near your unit that will attract more squirrels, skunks, raccoons, woodchucks, opossum, etc.
One temporary caveat to this policy is that we recently received a notice from the MI DNR about the avian flu and the recommended temporary removal of bird feeders:

If you have any questions regarding this policy, please let me know.
Best,
David
